Why Dev Diwali is celebrated?

Dev Diwali is celebrated on the full moon day of Kartik month.

According to mythology, on this day Lord Shiva defeated the demon Tripurasura and returned the gods to heaven. In this happiness, the gods celebrated this day as Dev Diwali. Therefore, Dev Diwali is also known as Tripura Utsav.

These measures can be taken on Dev Diwali:

  • Take a bath in a holy river or add Ganga water to the water at home.
  • Worship Lord Shiva.
  • Offer them Belpatra, Bhang, Dhatura, Akshat, flowers, garland, fruits, honey, sandalwood etc.
  • Light a ghee lamp and keep it to their right.
  • In the evening, make 11, 21, 51, 108 lamps made of flour, add oil to them, light them and offer them on the banks of a river.
Dev Diwali is especially celebrated in Varanasi. On this day, Diwali is celebrated in Kashi by lighting many lamps.

Religious and spiritual importance of Dev Diwali

The description of Dev Diwali is found in Shiv Purana that when in the month of Kartik, a demon named Tripurasur started torturing the gods and started killing them, then Lord Vishnu killed this cruel demon on this day and the gods celebrated Diwali.
